A House full of tales
Billy’s stone house is a very old establishment with rich history. It was built in 1736 and owned by a fisherman. Pack animals were used to transfer the building materials. Parts of the old trails leading to the area can be seen even today and can be walked.
The fisherman was married and had three daughters. His wife was pregnant in their fourth child when misfortune struck. There was an outbreak of leprosy (Hansen’s disease) at the time and the fisherman together with his wife had been infected. Their older daughter had been recently married and was living away from home. The other daughters were living with their grandparents in another village.
The villagers were terrified by the disease and locked the couple inside the house, providing them only with food. After his pregnant wife died the fisherman was so desperate and hopeless that he opened a hole in the lower floor of the house and run away to his boat at the port never to be seen again. Some say that they found him dead inside his boat which was stranded not far from the port. Others say that the villagers burned him alive in his boat. Either way, legend says that the following years his ghost led the pirate to the village and its secrets seeking for revenge.
Afterwards, the house has been burned and has been built again by his relatives. One special characteristic of old houses in the area is that they are connected by secret passages and trap doors. This is a way to communicate and avoid pirate plunders.
